INTERVIEW

What experiences in your life have drawn you closer to God, and how did they impact your spiritual journey?

Chantay: I went through a lot in my teenage years with family and learning how to love myself correctly. I got into two horrible relationships that tore me down and I knew something had to change within myself. I’ve always believed in God, but never really leaned on him when I needed to! I started to reflect on my faith and started praying everyday - leaning more towards him than anyone else. That’s how I got through those tough times! It made me realize I was never alone through any of it and he’s the reason I made it!

Can you share a time when you faced significant challenges, and what helped you stay connected to your beliefs?

Chantay: When my grandma died in 2020 I lost myself as a whole. I had daily panic attacks multiple times a day and was headed to a dark place. She was my person, so losing her really messed with me! My grandma kept her faith and knowing that my grandma knew God, I knew she entered his kingdom. That helped me keep my faith in him and he promises us everlasting life. Knowing that if I follow his word and keep my faith, I’ll be reunited with my grandma! Honestly that experience brought me closer to him!

How does prayer influence your relationship with God, especially during difficult times?

Chantay: Prayer is my lifeline! I praise him in every moment of my life and I thank him for every low I have! It’s something about prayer that heals you even when you don’t know how! I like to pray to him and give thanks in the difficult times the most because in those moments I’m leaning on his understandings and it keeps me levelheaded.

What practices or habits help you stay spiritually grounded in the midst of daily life?

Chantay: What helps me stay grounded spiritually is that in any moment I can give praise and thanks! I pray in the morning and throughout the day honestly. I love listening to gospel music and reminding myself that he’s walking through the days with me!

Is there a particular scripture or biblical story that speaks to you, and how has it guided you through tough moments?

Chantay: Psalms 46:5! It’s my daily reminder that no matter what God is always within me, and for that I will not fall! I may stumble, I may lose my balance in life, I may even come close to breaking my face lol but I will not fall! He's always there to catch me!

How do you continue to inspire and support others in their spiritual walk, even when facing your own struggles?

Chantay: I just tell them my thought process on how I look at things and how it has helped me. I get weak sometimes and want to act in a way that is not of God. Yet I always think of how far I’ve come because of him, I know the places he will take me! So that helps me be able to talk about the things he’s done for me in order to get others to see what he can do for them. If they just walk by faith and not by sight! In a way, helping others see the good in God helps heal me a little!

What advice would you offer to women who might be feeling distant from God during challenging periods?

Chantay: My advice is to keep your faith, especially in the midst of your struggles! God doesn’t come when you want him to, but he comes when you need him to. He shows you why he had you wait, keep pushing to be there person he knows you are set to be! Lean on him in your struggles because he will never let you feel alone! Our God is a good God and a faithful God. We just have to be patient and faithful to him, we'll see and feel all the Glory!!
