Interview

For someone who doesn't know you personally, how would you describe your personality and interest?

Shauntrice: For people that don’t know me, I would say that I am very preserved and observing. I am outgoing, but you really wouldn’t know that probably until you got to know me personally. I’m a psychology major and love working with people and basically making people feel good about themselves.

Dejontaye Patterson and Shauntrice Charles Host Of "Crown Em Empire" podcast.

What influenced you to create your podcast "Crown Em Empire", and how did your co-host, Dejontaye Patterson, contribute to the building of it?

Shauntrice: Crown Em Empire was made from the idea of building the community and making everyone better for their children. Crown’Em now is just a podcast but we’re moving towards a non profit organization now. Dejontaye adds the masculinity to the organization. I really did not want just a women’s point of view with ideas and opinions so that is really where he comes in at. Hopefully we have more hosts soon.

What's one thing you want readers and viewers to take away from your content?

Shauntrice: The content that I want to give off hopefully helps people with self care, accountability, and just day to day motivation and awareness.

You also have a candle business, what was it like creating your first candle, and what are your popular scents?

Shauntrice: The first time I made a candle my anxiety was through the roof. Candles are cute, but they’re not that easy to get the hang of to be honest. There is a lot of testing and trial and errors. I will say when you light that first perfect candle, it’s the best feeling.

What advice do you have for anyone wanting to start a podcast or business but afraid of what others may think?

Shauntrice: For people that want to start a business or a podcast which a podcast is a business basically , Ignore all negatives, strangers put more money in your pockets than people you knew growing up majority of the time. Stay consistent, make boundaries, your price is your price BUT make sure product or service is worth it!
